The Opportunity
TravelNest is a platform on a mission to automate, manage and help rental hosts inside one product. The VP of Design, Jo Tucker, joined me to solve the most serious problem the company had:
Absence of alignment between design and engineers, with no product governance and operating model
The Approach
Create Design Maturity through a System that helped engineers connect to design in minutes (instead of months)
The project was scoped as part of a 2-MVPs defined together with the board
My role in the team
In the team, I was responsible for building a prototype with a system for the first mobile app and creating awareness on workflow from design to engineers.
One of the things I contributed to the concept was the brand values workshop, which initially was an experiment that I thought mandatory for agreeing on guidelines from a design perspective**. Technically, the engs. were more than happy to close this gaps, and to avoid every time to reinvent the design wheel.
Some outputs include a strong basic Figma documentation of components, code sync and internal beta testing.
Moving forward
This experience was crazy from an educational point of view, from CEO Doug, to CTO Robin, and all the people I interacted with. It was great to create external awareness.
I realised that before reinventing something, it makes more sense to optimise what's already there.
